Queensland Police Service supporting LGBTI Communities

QPS supporting LGBTI Communities

An LGBTI forum was held at QPS Service Academy to provide an opportunity for QPS members and other supporting organisations to promote and share stories, ideas, initiatives and strategies in enhancing LGBTI inclusion and diversity. The forum included a flag raising ceremony as part of the QPS participation in the International Day Against Homophobia and Trans-phobia.

Police recruiting has developed an LGBTI recruiting flyer to be included in all information packs demonstrating a diverse workforce that supports this community. LGBTI Awareness training has also been undertaken by 16 police officers from across the Brisbane region, and these officers have now been appointed as LGBTI Liaison Officers.

An online guide is now available to give police quick and easy access to information relating to LGBTI communities and support services. This includes information around the different complexities of domestic violence in LGBTI relationships, transgender custody and search provisions, information on the correct use of pronouns and terminology and links to LGBTI support service.

QPS is to be commended as it continues ways to improve engagement with LGBTI communities.
